September 26 was Etsy Made in Canada day. As someone who (use to, and {spoiler alert} plans to again soon) sells on Etsy, I am so thrilled to see these markets pop up not only around our country, but around the world as well! I am a strong believer in supporting local and supporting handmade. Is there anything better than owning something that someone has created with love and passion for what they do? After our wedding in 2011, I posted some photos of the flowers I had made for our day in my already existent Etsy shop. Before long, my card shop was fully transformed into a bridal bouquet boutique. I was making flowers for brides around the world

The leaves are falling and the temperature is dropping. I’m finding myself not looking forward to winter as I usually do. The thought of hibernating for the winter scares me. I’m trying to hang on to summer through my photo album! I have a confession. We are surrounded by strawberry fields in July, but I have never gone strawberry picking. Shocking, I know! I have wanted to for years, but just haven’t made the time to do so. This year I decided I wasn’t going to miss yet another opportunity, so Olive and I packed up and hit the road early one Friday in July. Olive’s number one food group is berries, and high at the top of that list are strawberries,

Its Halloween week, and I’ve never been more excited! Lately I have noticed that my sewing machine is getting a work out. There are weeks where I sew constantly, and then there are weeks where my machines get the rest they deserve. There is something so satisfying about taking an average piece of fabric and turning it into something beautiful. In the last week I have been busy working on Olive and Henry’s Halloween Costumes as well as a few of these batty friends. The older I get, the more spirited I am becoming about different holidays. I’ve always been a Christmas nut, but now that Olive and Henry are here, I can honestly say I’m so excited for Halloween. Today I

pixel painting | 27th and Olive

I have always been envious of painters. I’ve always been an artsy type of person my entire life, always adventurous in trying new mediums and new techniques, however I could never really figure out painting. I always wanted to paint a realistic portrait of someone, but after attempting for many hours, the result was anything but… I took an art elective class in University, a welcomed escape from my hectic engineering packed schedule, where the focus was acrylic painting. I felt I learned a wealth of knowledge, but most of my paintings ended up being of bridges. Yes, I am a typical engineer. Fast forward a few years. I’ve noticed a growing trend (on Instagram anyway) in watercolour. Watercolour is

Modern Calligraphy | 27th and Olive

Yes, I am smitten with Calligraphy. There is something magical about dipping your pen into an inkwell and gracefully moving your hand across a page. The most beautiful words can elegantly be portrayed on a piece of paper. I am a big believer that we are all individuals, and that we are all unique. When it comes to calligraphy, the same is true. Your own personality comes through so you get something unique and original… Something that hasn’t quite been done before. I recently decided to try my hand at calligraphy, and I soon discovered that it is more than just writing words on a page. It is a true art form and something that has been teaching me to slow down, to

Big things are happening around here, if you didn’t already noticed! I’ve been working with the very talented Breezie Castell to re-design my little space in the blogosphere. Breezie was such a doll to work with. She listened to everything I had to say, and put up with my edits, upon edits, upon edits! After having some less-than-positive experiences with past designers, I took some courses from Nicoles Classes and Atly to learn about the design process and how to use both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I luckily came across Breezie who had no problem designing from my initial ideas. Breezie has added the breath of fresh air I have needed to get my blogging bee-hind in gear. Best of all,
